IN HIS HANDS
When they wrapped him in a blanket
And placed him in my arms;
I asked the Lord to make it
so that I could keep him safe and warm.
One day when we were visiting
He took a walk alone.
And when I realized he was gone from sight,
I prayed, and then called the policemen on the phone.
Someone found him walking
and called the policemen too.
She thought it didn’t seem quite right
To see a three year old walking while carrying one shoe.
The first day he went off to school
I wanted to cry with fear.
I prayed that the Lord would give him the tools
He’d need when I could not be near.
The first time he drove somewhere without me
I was as jittery as could be.
Every nightmare in the world, I couldn’t keep at bay
And so I prayed a thousand times that he’d be safe that day.
At age 16 he had his first date,
And I prayed he wouldn’t be out too late.
I hoped that he would be very kind,
And all of his manners he would mind.
Today we sent him on a new journey
to preach the gospel in a foreign land.
And so again I am on my knees
asking the Lord to keep him in His Hands.
And while I was pondering upon my plea
I felt a voice speak softly,
“Dear child don’t you see;
You can trust in me to keep both of you in My Hands.”
